In World War I, Sweden tried to remain neutral. They decided to import freely but it favored Germany, so the Allies decided to stop exporting to Sweden. During this time it affected Germany but also affected Sweden. In 1916 Sweden had a major food shortage because of the cut-off exporting to them.
The situation started to worsen when there was unrestricted submarine warfare by the US. Hammarskjöld was forced to resign from power and after that he was followed up by a Conservative government and then laer a liberal one, which created a more diplomaic trading policy. The Swedish area is well know for its viking period that lasted for 400 years. Their ships were pretty save. Although they would wiggle and bend while sailing they were suited for long journeys. There were not just the raider type vikings, there were 3 types total. They had Merchants, mercenaries, and the original well known vikings.

Sweden is a Scandinavian country in northern Europe and they became one of the greatest powers in Europe in the 17th century and technologically advanced with good infrastructure.
